Manuka honey is made in New Zealand and Australia by bees that pollinate the manuka bush. This type of honey is famous for its antibacterial qualities, in particular, a compound called methylglyoxal (MG).
The higher the concentration of MG, the greater the antibacterial effect.
This concentration is ranked according to the prominent UMF ranking system. The higher the concentration, the higher its rank.
Manuka honey needs to be at least UMF10+ to be considered suitable for medicinal healing.
